Reviewing Progress
The Steering Committee uses the following criteria to assess progress:
- Progress vs. Milestones: Each Core sets quarterly milestones to achieve the goals set each year by the Steering Committee. Similarly, milestones are set annually for the bridging projects. Milestones must be specific and measurable such that progress can be evaluated at the end of each quarter. Quarterly reports documenting progress against each milestone are reviewed in a Steering Committee meeting attended by Core Directors. At mid-year the Steering Committee may agree, as appropriate, to revise the milestones (accelerate or decelerate) for the remainder of the year.
- Effectiveness of the Core Resources: The annual reports describe the
activities and effectiveness of each Core in the
context of its role in the overall program.
- Annual Participating Investigators Meeting: An annual meeting of Participating Investigators is held to update investigators on the progress of the project. Every meeting has included Subgroup meetings where Subgroup leaders solicit ideas and feedback from the members. This feedback is collected and presented to the Steering Committee, which uses the information obtained to help formulate program priorities moving forward.
- Role of the Advisory Committee: The Steering Committee reviews the Advisory Committee's annual report in its overall evaluation of the project.
- Other Objective Measures: As the program has matured, other objective measures of progress have emerged, such as the increasing number of resource requests, investigators that have joined the CFG, and publications.
