Status : Approved
Project Description : To characterize the fine specificity of each of the four lectin (BlclA, BclB, BclC and BclD) for complex glycans in order to identify the host target of B. cenocepacia and design glycomimics that could compete with the bacteria as anti-adhesive compounds.

Experiment to be conducted : We are in the process of characterizing the 4 different soluble lectins involved in opportunistic infection by Burkholderia cenocepacia, a pathogen highly dangerous for cystic fibrosis patients. The four lectins BlclA, BclB, BclC and BclD have been produced recombinante. They have related binding sites but different affinity for fucose or mannose. They also contain additional domains than the lectin one. The identification of fine specificy of each lectin for complex glycans will be helpful for i/ identifying the target on human tissues and ii/ designing glycomimics that could compete with the bacteria and serve as anti-adhesive compounds.
Within Scope of Consortium : Y
If yes, indicate the person responsible for inputing data into core B : David Smith
GBP being Addressed : The four lectins will be labeled by ALexa fluor
Specifc aims being addressed : Define the specificity and affinity for carbohydrate ligands. Identify the ligand(s) that mediate GBP binding.
