This laboratory is working on (1) the molecular basis on how enveloped viruses, e.g. avian influenza virus, HIV, SARS coronavirus, paramyxovirus (e.g., Sendai virus and Newcastle disease virus), get into the host cells.

Experiment to be conducted
:
We purified several different influenza virus proteins. Our previous studies show that those proteins can bind α2,3 or α2,6 sialic acid. This project proposes to study the structural determinants for host tropisms of influenza viruses by investigating glycan binding profiles of avian-origin influenza viruses and their mutants.
